The Mechanicals Theatre Collective, in association with the Little Theatre, announces their 2011 “Summer Theatre Season”.

This vibrant theatre collective of professional actors, directors and designers come together from January to May 2011 to bring Cape Town audiences THREE exciting productions.

The “Summer Theatre Season”, 25 January to 21 May 2011, kicks off with a delicious production of The Great Gatsby. Staged from 25 January to 19 February and directed by Luke Ellenbogen (Raiders, Cosi), this production includes Emily Child (Decadence, Cosi), Nicholas Pauling (The Zoo Story, Dumb Waiter) and Scott Sparrow (Decadence, The Zoo Story). Early bookings are recommended to avoid missing out on this classic Scott Fitzgerald story on the historic Little Theatre stage.

William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream follows from 02 March to 02 April. Playing in the popular Intimate Theatre (73 seats), this magical comedy is directed by actor/designer/director Guy De Lancey (Blasted, Cosi, Endgame). The cast includes Tinarie van wyk Loots (The Importance of Being Earnest, Cowboy Mouth), Kate Liquorish (Cosi, Mephisto) and Andrew Laubscher (Cosi, Highway Crossing).

Concluding the 2011 “Summer Theatre Season” The Mechanicals present the brilliant Lovborg's Women from 13 April to 21 May (with no performances over the Easter Break) in The Intimate Theatre. Christopher Weare's production is a hilarious take on 20th Century reactions to the theatre genres of realism and naturalism. Pure entertainment. Lovborg's Women accentuates and discloses some of the absurdity and comedy of famous theatre forms.

The Mechanicals’ “Summer Theatre Season” includes selected dates for attendance at rehearsals, pre show introductions by directors and post show discussions with casts. The season is a feast for learners presently studying and theatre goers alike!

Tickets cost R80 per ticket, per show (with concessions of R60). Preliminary bookings are now open.
