imaginemag - arts & culture emagazine

ImagineMag! has been created and is run by people with a passion for arts and our culture in all forms. Passion on its own however is never enough to sustain any project. What one needs are knowledgeable, hardworking and imaginative people to further develop this wonderful concept. We have the start of that in the shape of Amy Gould, Director of Dance Crew, Principal of the AGBS and owner of the Theatre On-Main, Dr Dawn Gould, owner of FACTS FOUND, a historical research bureau and… all of you who will contribute in many interesting ways. Get talking people, and let us hear from you.

In this edition we have wonderful dancing from Mzanzi and the Cuban dancers who will be performing in Joburg and Durban, the South African Theatre Ballet at the Joburg Theatre and Dance Crew at their Theatre On-Main Tokai and in Tulbagh. Read about the town of Tulbagh and if you haven’t visited this historic town put it on your list of places NOT TO MISS.

Interested in plant cultivation and the great outdoors? Our book review on a GUIDE TO GARDEN SUCCULENTS and an article on Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, are a book and a place not to be missed. Also at Kirstenbosch will be the prestigious annual Freedom to Create exhibition and prize event.

I am delighted at the response we have had from the art fraternity. It would appear this is the edition for Art Exhibitions. This ranges from Postcards on the Road, Don Pinnock and Justine Fox at the Montebello Design Centre to Somewhere on the other side - Marilena Vita at the Photographers Gallery za 63 Shortmarket Street, Cape Town and with a quick flip to Eric Bolsman – A retrospective at the Pretoria Arts Museum. Don’t miss a stunning art exhibition at The MOMO - Ransome Stanley Shake Your Monkey. Go look, go learn and experience, you will only benefit.

The news that a series of Law & Order is to be filmed in Cape Town, a local one too is exciting. But how will we know what is real life crime on our streets and what is make-believe? Let us hope we get lots of warning about where filming takes place so someone doesn’t pull their own little `piece’ out and get in on the action.

FTH:K’s is about to start rehearsals for another brand new show, The Beauty of Invisible Things, something else not to be missed.

What is disability? Erica du Toit discusses the importance of defining disability especially in the workplace. I think we all have a lot of defining about our approach to disability, those we can see and those we can’t, our own as well as those of people around us.

Find out what Eco Kids Film Initiative is all about when we talk to Tarien Roux the creator.
