JANUARY 2016 EDITORIAL

December 2015 will have come and gone and January 2016 will be upon us by the time you read this.

In a recent conversation with a salesman in the motor vehicle industry his comment on life and the economy was, “If you are still alive and still have a business you are doing well.”

I have chosen not to look back on December, it was a disconcerting time for many people to say the least, and move on and look ahead and welcome the start of another year.

I love the Summer season and all the wonderful fruit that is available if you can afford it.  For me, farmers are workers of miracles.  They struggle in all weathers and are in constant battles not only with the elements but the wild life both small and large.  And then they have to face the problems all businesses are currently facing – the balancing act between covering expenses and making a profit, it is after all why everyone is in business whether you are a farmer or a cultural practitioner, and paying a fair amount to the workers. A situation that will always be with us and one that will constantly provide a battle ground where there are very few winners.

Desperation and need does not provide a fertile field for logical thought and coupled with ignorance through lack of quality education and we have a barren battle field for all.

And then I look around at Nature and I see these glorious Sunflowers (our cover Picture this month) and I think, we humans are part of Nature too, and should concentrate and focus on creating worthwhile and beautiful works of art for all to enjoy. Man does not live by bread alone.

May all our people of our beautiful country enjoy a better quality of life and to everyone,  good health, good work, and fair payment for 2016 and in the future.
