THE PLAYHOUSE COMPANY – KwaZulu-Natal during DECEMBER

FOR YOUR EARS ONLY

Playhouse Drama Theatre :12 – 23 December 2015

For your holiday entertainment pleasure, The Playhouse Company proudlypresents the hilarious Paul Slabolepszy show, FOR YOUR EARS ONLY, which opens at the Playhouse Drama Theatre on 12 December and runs until the 23rd.

Taking the form of a live radio play on stage, FOR YOUR EARS ONLY stars Slabolepszy himself, as well as the enormously popular Michael Richard, Michael Gritten, Louise Saint-Claire, Sibusiso Radebe, Bheki Mqadi and Bronwyn van Graan. The show is directed by another giant of the South African theatre, Ralph Lawson.

Taking us behind the scenes of a radio studio, FOR YOUR EARS ONLY sees a group of actors, a producer and a writer assemble in a radio studio to record a weekly ‘soapie’ called ‘The Soul of Sister Serious’. As the narrative unfolds, we find the producer in a state of high anxiety, the writer feeling threatened, and two of the actors heading for the divorce courts. The result is a comedy that crackles with hilarity and intrigue.

As the ‘soapie’ is being recorded, we find the crazy happenings behind the scenes even more compelling than what is being recorded, and we are drawn into the ‘play within a play’for a unique glimpse into the process of producing ‘theatre of the mind’.

As an actor, Paul Slab, as he is affectionately known, has appeared in over 100 stage and television plays, as well as 15 feature films.

Ralph Lawsonis well known to audiences for his award-winning work both as an actor and a director spanning four decades.

“The Playhouse Company is proud to bring to the people of KwaZulu-Natal and visitors to our province another piece of quality theatre this holiday season, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to our theatres,” said Ms Linda Bukhosini, Chief Executive Officer and Artistic Director of The Playhouse Company.
