There is currently a general feeling of discord, insecurity and general uneasiness in the atmosphere.
Human beings are fallible and therefore one should expect and understand slides from grace along the way. But how long and how far is one expected to allow the slide to continue. Why does it take so long, before whoever holds the reins of power, resolves the problem that is causing the horse to attempt that possibly fatal leap for freedom at all costs?
Identifying the underlying problem is the beginning of resolving issues. Putting into place practical solutions is what we need to be doing.
Questions need to be asked and answered in the atmosphere currently prevailing with regard to education at all levels, and business practices.
Is the person or group involved:
- Capable of identifying the true nature of the problem,
- Prepared, able and with the necessary power to resolve the issues,
- Undertake the actions that need to be taken for the short and the long term
In a perfect world this would involve no politics. However human beings are political creatures and this too must be taken into account.
Working as I do with a very wide range of age in my school and company and after many years of experience I find most good and bad habits start when the person is very young. And the implementation comes from where?
It is very difficult to discipline teenagers and mature adults when they have led unstructured and in many cases unmonitored lives. Absent parents, missing parents, unavailable parents all play an enormous role in the development of the human being that has been brought into this world.
The teacher, the lecturer, the director, the company manager etc assume the role of that guiding hand in the further growth of that individual whether they want to, are aware of the role or capable of assuming that role.
When bad behavior is accepted as simply youthful playfulness or indiscretion is this not the start of future patterns of behavior? We have to train people in ways of behavior that do no harm to others to form a safe work and private life.
The escalation of unacceptable behavior and lack of overseeing of discipline results in what we are all experiencing today, whether it is in the home, the class room, the lecture hall or board room. And note I am not even mentioning Parliament!
Raising expectations that can never be met is a recipe for disaster and one we are currently experiencing at all levels of society.
On that happy note as we come to a year end, and all the not met expectations that many experience at this time of year, I would like to thank our many contributors and advertisers who contribute to ImagineMag! May you be safe and healthy both in your private and business lives in the year ahead.
