PRONUNCIATION – Dr Dawn Gould

Some words of the English language can cause certain difficulties when attempting to pronounce  or spell them. The word is spelled one way and becomes, sound wise, quite different.

For example:

LIBRARY as it is spelled becomes LI BREE when spoken.

IMMEDIATELY becomes MEE JUT LY when spoken.

NECESSARY as spelled but becomes NE CESS REE when spoken.

PRONOUNCE to declare  –  is a verb and when heard  it sounds  as PRO NOWNS   but the  spelling of the adjective is spelled  PRONUNCIATION  and is heard as PRO NUN SEE A SHUN

PHLEGM  spelled and when spoken becomes FLEM.
