A CURIOUS HUMAN HABIT! – Dr Dawn Gould

Why are the names of some animals used to indicate  a habit  or a personality of certain human beings?

For example the word WOLF may suggest a greedy or a cunning person.

To call someone a RABBIT implies a timid or an unimportant individual.

A SHARK could be a swindler

Whereas the OWL is called wise.

A LAMB however calls to mind a gentle, innocent person.

Is this done to intimate some form of displeasure or dislike or is it done to indicate the speaker or writer’s own feelings of inferiority by under estimating someone else ? A personal opinion  – it disrespects  the above creatures of nature.

Other cultures may have something similar to this particular English peculiarity.
