The Cape Town Carnival is a glamorous celebration of the transformative power of creativity and our African identity with its diverse array of communities and cultures.
The theme for 2018 is “Mother City, Mother Nature” which will explore what it means to be the Mother City and explore the convergence of Nature and City embodied by Cape Town’s twin treasures: it’s fascinating people and natural wonders.
On the 17 of March 2018 spectators will have the freedom of the city streets on the Green Point Fan Walk. With over 2 000 dazzling costumed performers and musicians taking to Cape Town’s Fan Walk, entertaining viewers with floats and vibrant dance routines.
Dress comfortably in your “dancing shoes” as the Fan Walk is 2 km long and there will be many things to explore. From 3pm the Fan Walk turns into a pedestrian walkway filled with fun, food and folk enjoying the freedom of their city streets. 7pm the PARADE BEGINS!
The Cape Town Carnival is not only about the Parade. We encourage you to come and experience the carnival village. The Fan Walk turns into a pedestrian walkway filled with fun, food and folk enjoying the freedom of the city streets. Join us at one of the Cape Town Carnival Villages (offering music, entertainment, bar, refreshments and food) to get you into the Cape Town Carnival mood pre and post the Cape Town Carnival Parade.
For those of you who don’t feel like standing, you can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the event seated on a bleacher-style terraced platform, at a stand of your choice.
