NEW WORDS ADDED TO THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE – Dr Dawn Gould

South African English is a most accommodating language in that words from other local languages are constantly being added, particularly to speech. Babelas (From the Zulu word Babalazi) suggests that an individual has a hangover, whereas  Eina refers to an unexpected smack “ouch”. Eish! Suggests, surprise, wonder, frustration.  Gogo from the Zulu language indicates an elderly woman or a grandmother.   Muti suggests that someone needs medicine
