WORDS AND THEIR MEANINGS – Dr Dawn Gould

WORDS: made up of a certain number of letters of the alphabet and which help us to understand what we read. For example:

NAP:      a short sleep,   a raised pile of textiles – velvet, soft downy surface

CAT NAP : Also a brief sleep by the animal

KID NAP:    to abduct by force or to steal from an individual.  But how does Kidnap tie in with nap, a brief sleep?     Perhaps when one is napping one is unaware or inattentive of surroundings and thus the kidnapper is able to go to work?
