What better way to pay tribute to a man who has dedicated his life to dance, than by dancing!
Following their successful production of España 2016, the dancers from the Montoya Spanish Dance Theatre will once again be lighting up the Atterbury Theatre’s stage, bringing Spain directly to Pretoria’s doorstep! Helena and Maria Lorca Montoya along with guest artists Che Adams and Rosa Jiminez will be joining together to bring you an absolute celebration of Spanish dance in honour of Josè Montoya!
Josè Montoya, who turned 80 in January is renowned for bringing Spanish Dancing to Pretoria. He continuously strived to bring top class entertainment to the public and paved the way for the well known production ‘España’ that is now carried on through Helena and his youngest daughter Maria Lorca Montoya. Josè was granted the Order of Civil Merit with the rank of Commander through His Majesty the King of Spain, Felipe VI in 2015. His Majesty the King recognized José’s distinguished career as a performer and teacher of Spanish dance as well as Josè’s drive towards the strengthening of the cultural relations between Spain and South Africa. This was a huge honour and the absolute highlight in Josè’s career.
España is a tribute to Josè, for without him, his sheer determination, hard work and absolute dedication to this dance form, Spanish dance would not be where it is in Pretoria today!
With a cast consisting of junior, senior and professional dancers, this show promises you a feast of modern and traditional Spanish dance, fiery rhythms and bewitching music. This production will showcase various ranges of Spanish dance namely Regional, Neo-classical and Flamenco.
Maria Lorca Montoya and Rosa Jiminez (founder of Rosa Jiminez Spanish Dance Theatre in Sasolburg), will be performing, as well as Che Adams –. Che runs the Tierra Flamenca Dance Studio, in Cape Town.
España is a feast for the senses, and a true treat for the soul! Come pay tribute to a true legend: Josè Montoya!
