Holidays and sweet words – or are they? – Dr Dawn Gould

The year 2016  is drawing to a close and with it will come a holiday period.

There will be annual leave, family gatherings, parties and various other celebrations probably with sweet items being on menus. Thinking about this the following words  and their associates came to mind.  An immediate meaning but with other significance as well.

THEY ARE:

FUDGE:  a tasty soft sweet,  OR  to cheat, to cover up, dodge

JAM :     also a sweet treat – a conserve of fruit boiled in sugar OR to block by crowding,

To interfere with by emitting signals of a similar wavelength, an embarrassing situation

STIR:       to set in motion – continuous movement of a spoon. OR  To cause trouble
