Ruth Prowse School of Art NPC was founded in 1970 and continues to be committed to an enriching open tuition and policy of non-discrimination on the grounds of race, colour, gender or religion that has been in place since the inception of the school. The School is housed in the historic Roodebloem Estate in Woodstock, Cape Town.
The Graduates of 2016 in the Diploma programmes of Fine Art, Graphic Design and Photography have achieved notable bodies of work with a pleasing diversity that celebrate individual thought and creativity and industry ready professionalism. The work engages with relevant and contemporary issues from the socio-political to the highly personal.
This years group have some notable students with divers bodies of work. Such as Ross Culverwell who’s work displays failure and process using stop motion and mixed media.
Richard Horne who is working in digital as well as traditionally formats. From using markers & fine liners to using Wacom digital tablets and watercolor paints. He enjoys combining aspects of illustration and design within his work.
Chester Hornes work consists of a series of oil paintings showing fans cheering and going on next to the sports field. There is a true mix of subject matter amongst the graduates of this year be it feminism to conservation of species.
Katherine Desmond and Chase Liebenberg have both looked at humans impact on the environment and the conservation of species.
