AN INTERESTING WOMAN FROM THE PAST

RUTH MOMPATI born 14 September 1925  (died 14 May 2015) was a freedom fighter who felt strongly about the situation of women in South Africa.  So much so that she helped organize the women’s march on 9 August 1956. Between 1953 and 1961 she worked as typist for Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo in their law firm in Johannesburg.  In 1994 she became a member of parliament and later the ambassador to Switzerland, 1996-2000.
